Statement of Mission
The English Department cultivates learners’ motivation to master a foreign international language, keeping with the goal of lifelong learning. To this end, we equip learners with key linguistic, communication and thinking skills that empower them to communicate efficiently in different real-life situations, and interact with diverse mediums, all in compliance with our Islamic principles. Our department works to help learners attain a deep level of critical thinking and boost their creative thinking about literature and the world so as to fully arm them for future career and future life.
Knowledge Outcomes
Read aloud fluently and with proper pace, pitch and intonation
Display knowledge and understanding of the principal genres of literature in English
Expand lexical awareness through acquisition of academic vocabulary and morphological forms
Comprehend, interact with and evaluate any spoken discourse in native language in daily life and career life
Recognize most common kinds of English syntax and structure

Communicate orally effectively in different contexts with a variety of audiences and for different purposes, using authentic, appropriate, and correct linguistic forms

Read critically and proficiently, and analyze a variety of texts, of advanced academic levels, evaluating different kinds of concepts, thoughts and attitudes
Interpret technical and connotative use of context
Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects with committed observance of academic ethics
Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others
Recognize, explain, and apply various rhetorical modes in writing (persuasion, explanation, narration, analysis, contrast, process, classification and definition, illustration, …); using the conventions of standard English
